For Leo Justiniano, no two shoot days ever look exactly the same, and that’s part of what keeps it interesting. Whether he’s filming interviews, lighting a space, or helping move gear across the city, Leo plays a hands-on role in bringing Offbeat Creative’s productions to life.
Leo has been working with Offbeat Creative as a Director of Photography and occasional gaffer for the past two to three years. His responsibilities shift depending on the project, but they all center around making sure the visuals come together the way they’re supposed to.

“I’ll be recording interviews or event work, lighting the environment, and helping transport equipment. It really depends on what the shoot needs that day.”
1. Wearing Multiple Hats
Unlike larger productions where roles are more rigid, Leo’s work with Offbeat Creative allows him to move between positions and contribute wherever he’s needed. One day might be focused entirely on camera work, while another involves shaping the lighting or helping solve logistical challenges.
Being part of those different steps gives him a deeper understanding of the full production process. It also means he’s constantly thinking about how lighting, camera, and environment all work together to support the story.

2. Power of a Small Team
One of the things Leo values most about working with Offbeat Creative is the size of the team. Smaller crews create space for real collaboration. Ideas can be shared freely, and everyone has the chance to contribute in meaningful ways.
“When you have a small team, you’re able to bounce ideas off each other. Everyone brings something different, and it usually leads to a much better result than trying to do everything on your own.”
That kind of creative exchange not only improves the work but makes the process itself more rewarding.

3. Memorable Projects
Every shoot brings something different, but some projects leave a lasting impression. For Leo, working on the Cafe Joyeux project stands out as one of his favorite experiences. It was the kind of production where the story, the people, and the creative all came together in a way that felt meaningful.
Projects like that reflect the type of work Offbeat Creative often focuses on, visually driven, story-centered productions that balance strong technical execution with real human moments.
4. Career Advice
Leo believes there’s no shortcut to becoming a strong DP or videographer. It takes time, practice, and a willingness to keep learning. He encourages people to develop their own point of view rather than trying to replicate someone else’s work.
He also stresses the importance of drawing inspiration from everywhere, not just from other filmmakers. Music, art, everyday conversations, and real-life experiences can all influence the way you see and frame the world. Over time, those influences shape a style that feels personal and authentic, and that’s what ultimately sets someone apart in a competitive industry.
