A Day in the Life at Offbeat Creative: Kayla Ricciardelli, Video Editor

When people think about video production, they usually picture the shoot: cameras rolling, lights everywhere, and a busy set. The story doesn’t truly come to life until after, in the edit. That’s where Kayla Ricciardelli does her thing.

Kayla is a video editor at Offbeat Creative, and she’s been part of the team for just under a year. Her world lives in post-production: cutting footage, shaping pacing, dialing in color, building sound, and adding motion graphics when a project calls for it. It’s detailed work, but it’s also where tone and personality really starts to show.

“Most of what I do is in post: editing, color, sound, and some motion graphics. That’s where everything really comes together.”

She’s the one turning hours of footage into something people connect with when they watch.

1. Finding the Fun in Post

Some projects are more technical, others are more creative, and Kayla lights up when she gets the latter. She loves work that gives her room to experiment with rhythm, transitions, and visual style, especially on brand pieces that aren’t afraid to have a little personality.

One of her favorite projects so far has been Nespresso’s “Rad on the Run” video. It gave her space to play with pacing and lean into a more energetic, stylized edit. Instead of just assembling footage, she got to help shape the vibe of the piece in a bigger way.

2. Improving Skills

Since joining Offbeat Creative, Kayla’s skill set has expanded, especially in motion graphics. Projects often move quickly and ask for more visual flair than traditional corporate edits, which has pushed her to grow.

“I’ve definitely gotten stronger in motion graphics, especially working in After Effects. The projects here are more fast-paced and creative, which pushes me in a good way.”

That kind of environment forces you to think on your feet. You learn how to make creative decisions quickly, trust your instincts, and still keep everything polished.

3. The Editor's Headspace

Kayla’s days are usually spent deep in timelines, headphones on, focused on the details most viewers will never consciously notice: the cut that hits just before a beat drops, the subtle color shift that changes the mood, the sound design that makes a scene feel grounded.

She appreciates that her role doesn’t revolve around constant meetings. Instead, she gets long stretches of time to actually work, try ideas, and fine-tune moments. That focus is a big part of what allows her to elevate the final product.

4. Career Tips

Kayla is quick to point out that there isn’t just one path into editing. A degree can help, but what really matters is putting in the hours and building connections. She encourages aspiring editors to find a niche, whether that’s social content, narrative, commercials, or motion graphics, and to get comfortable reaching out, sharing work, and starting conversations.

At the end of the day, Kayla is the one who transforms a collection of shots into a complete story. Her work happens quietly behind the scenes, but her attention to detail and creative instincts are a huge reason Offbeat Creative’s projects feel sharp, cohesive, and engaging from the first frame to the last.
