New Jersey’s film roots run deep! It is truly considered the birthplace of the motion picture industry. Thomas Edison built the first movie studio in West Orange and The Great Train Robbery (1903), shot in Essex County, is one of the first and most influential narrative films in U.S. cinema history. The thriving business today is less of a trend and more a homecoming due to modern infrastructure and investment.
